This course covers the process of developing complex, realistic, and believable characters for the stage actor. Study includes analyzing source material for given circumstances, making character decisions congruent with the world of the play, completing a robust and applicable character analysis, and practically applying these tools to improve performance.
Objectives:
- Character Analysis: Introduce students to character analysis, focusing on motivations, backgrounds, and relationships (Anchor Standard 7: Perceive and analyze artistic work).
- Script Interpretation: Teach students to interpret scripts to understand the context and given circumstances of characters (Anchor Standard 8: Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work).
- Practical Performance Techniques: Develop skills for practical application of character development, including physicality, voice, and emotional expression (Anchor Standard 5: Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation).
