This course covers the process of developing complex, realistic, and believable characters for the stage actor. Study includes analyzing source material for given circumstances, making character decisions congruent with the world of the play, completing a robust and applicable character analysis, and practically applying these tools to improve performance.
Objectives:
- Character Analysis: Teach students how to conduct thorough character analyses, identifying motivations, backgrounds, and relationships (Anchor Standard 7: Perceive and analyze artistic work).
- In-Depth Script Analysis: Guide students in analyzing source material to understand given circumstances and character context (Anchor Standard 8: Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work).
- Practical Application: Develop practical techniques for embodying characters on stage, including physicality, voice, and emotional expression (Anchor Standard 5: Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation).
